Site Preparation & Grading
Site Preparation and Grading in Bozeman
Before a foundation goes in or a driveway gets its first load of aggregate, the ground has to be shaped and compacted to the plan. Cidnola strips and stockpiles topsoil, cuts and fills the parcel to the staked elevations, and builds a subgrade that drains and carries load across Bozeman and Gallatin County.
Why Grading Done Right Matters
Water is the enemy of every building, and grade is how you control it. A pad that slopes back toward the structure invites a wet basement off Kagy Boulevard; a pad graded to positive drainage sheds it. Loose fill settles and cracks slabs, while fill compacted to 95 percent of maximum dry density under a modified Proctor test (ASTM D1557) holds. We grade for the real conditions, not the ideal ones.
Our Process
We confirm the grading permit, run 811 for underground lines, then strip topsoil and rough grade to the engineer’s elevations. Structural fill goes in controlled lifts with density testing, silt fence and inlet protection stay up to satisfy the site’s SWPPP, and a finish grade sets the exact drainage slopes. The last pass leaves a clean, compacted surface ready for concrete, sod, or road base.
